Opinion, bias and fact checking – KS1

  • The course will look at persuasion strategies used in texts to help KS1 fully understand what is being said. 
  • We will look at how we can fact check that a text is correct and how they can fact check this. 
  • We will also look at texts that are fiction and how the text tells us this eg traditional tales and the meaning behind texts. 
  • Strategies will be given to use in the classroom so that children become aware of how vocabulary is being used to influence thinking.

Esther Logue and Elizabeth Teague

Elizabeth Teague (External Consultant)

Elizabeth has many years teaching and management experience in Rochdale Primary schools.  She was also a leading literacy teacher within the authority.  Elizabeth then became a Teaching and Learning Consultant for Rochdale LEA.  She is now an independent Teaching and Learning Consultant specialising in English CPD for KS1 and KS2 teachers.

Esther Logue (Teaching and Learning Advisor, RBC)

Esther has significant experience of teaching across KS2 within Rochdale.  Current roles include Headteacher in Calderdale,  Operational Moderation manager for KS2 writing and Teaching and Learning Consultant specialising in English. Esther also has many years experience working for the STA, DfE and NFER on KS2 English Assessment.
