The Education Endowment Foundation’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit has consistently held metacognition and self-regulation at the top of its list of strategies and initiatives that has the greatest impact on pupil progress. Often described as ‘learning to learn’, it has a strong evidence base and is relatively low-cost to schools. These findings correlate strongly with the teaching methods that have been employed by specialist teachers for many decades and with great success.
Identify practical, easy to implement strategies and approaches that make the biggest differences to pupil progress – particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with special educational needs.
