Inclusion in Music – for children with SEND
- This course will give teachers or support staff an opportunity to explore ways of adapting music teaching and learning for a variety of needs.
- We will look into the different ways of recognising musical engagement, development and achievement based on the sounds of intent framework and how to adapt lesson planning and delivery, including 1-1 interventions, in accordance with this framework.
- Attendees will leave with a wide range of methods by which they can seek to engage all pupils, and especially those who may have barriers to learning, in an effective music education and provision.

Anna Harrison – Inclusion Lead for Rochdale Music Service.
Having trained at University of Manchester, Anna has developed her work through partnerships with organisations such as TiPP, Amber Trust, Opera North, DIY Theatre and other organisations who specialise in facilitating participatory music for all.
Anna has been a music teacher with Rochdale Music Service for 4 years, with 2 years as the Inclusion Lead for the department where she specialises in working with children and young people who experience barriers to learning, to provide exciting musical opportunities and engagement.. She is also the SEND strand lead for In Harmony at Opera North, working with children and young people with SEND in both specialist and mainstream sessions, Anna is passionate about adapting music education to suit each child she teaches. She has spent the past year developing strategies for combining curriculum progress points with more participatory styles of musical engagement, finding ways to promote both musical and extra-musical development within the same lessons.
Anna’s work has a dual goal of providing musical education and attainment, alongside using music as a tool for emotional wellbeing and personal development.
